The SAP200 House | A New Building Paradigm!

A fossil-fuel-free building in operation, one that is naturally heated, naturally ventilated with autonomy over its own energy.

The building’s four distinctive characteristics are:

  • Rationalised construction specification.

  • Low tech in operation.

  • Healthy living environment.

  • Energy autonomy.

1. Rationalised Construction Specification: There are no cavity walls, no foundations, no roof voids, no skirtings, no architraves, no stud walls, no plasterboard, no boilers, no radiators, no mechanical ventilation, no air source heat pumps, no ground source heat pumps...the list goes on.

2. Low Tech In Operation: Passive solar design techniques allied with a high thermal mass superstructure and super-insulated envelope, delivers a naturally heated building. Also, utilising the Venturi Effect, the designed-in cross and stack ventilation regimes, means no mechanical ventilation is required.

3. Healthy Living Environment is achieved by specifying VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) free materials and implementing a natural ventilation regime which delivers high indoor air quality (IAQ)

4. Energy Autonomy is attained by a combination of roof mounted PVs and a battery energy storage system (BESS) facilitating a greater degree of self-reliance.  This in turn provides protection from the economic and political vagaries of the energy markets and geo-political energy security issues.
